Today I had the most amazing experience. I drove up the 5 to Encinita's to check out a beach recommendation for our upcoming ward beach party. As soon as I got on the 5 it was foggy. If you have read at all on the blog you understand my unusual facination with fog! Well that also meant that the beach was foggy. As soon as I drove up the hill and around the corner to Moonlight State Beach I was blown away! Of course the usual intake of breath happened as it typically does when I get to see the beach as it's always such an amazing site to behold. I parked, got out of the car and proceeded to stand on the cliff over looking the beach and the ocean. As I stood there and watched the waves I caught a glimpse of something moving out in the distance. A cluster of seagulls were fishing in the ocean about a hundred yards out. As I looked closer however it wasn't just seagulls.
THERE WAS MORE!!! My heart pounds just thinking about this moment! There in the water, out in the ocean, were several very distictive dorsal fins. Whether they were dolphin or whale I wasn't sure but they were amazing. This has happened to me before where I've looked out and seen something that I was sure was marine animal out in the wild but it's always been a moment, a glimpse, a questionable trick of the eye. This was not. I watched the animals, we'll call them whales, for several minutes fishing there in a tight pod and then they moved on to the south and every so often I could see the backs and their fins pop out of the water as they swam off. I stood there longer hoping to get one more chance at a glimpse of something else. As I stood there I thought about how lucky I had been to see such an amazing thing and how the Lord has blessed me. I was suddenly overwhelmed with feeling very blessed. The whole way home I kept thinking of that country song I Saw God Today by George Strait and the lyrics just kept pounding in my head so I had to come and look them up. The chorus totally applies...

I've read the book
I know he's here
But I don't look
Near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I just slowed down to stop and stare
Opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today
Sometimes all we need to do is open our eyes. I wasn't even going to go out there today. I was going to come home and relax after working at the school this morning but something kept pulling me to take a drive. Now I know why. What and amazing experience.

That is amazing Cyn. I can't see the ocean and not think of God.
That's beautiful Cynthia, and the lyrics totally go with your experience. If we just open our eyes we can see God every day. It really is amazing to see marine life in their untouched environment. It makes you stop and get lost in imagining what life must be like cruising around in the depths of the ocean. Such a different life than our own. They are probably looking up at the specs on land wondering what life is like for humans living on dry land. A whole other world!
