4th day with NO Diet Coke
So this morning I had a tough time. I went to 7-11 to grab a quick sandwich to take to school with me and was very tempted to grab a Coke and down it. The temptation is still strong. ARGH! It's so frustrating to tell my self that water is ok. Alas it is. I brought a big water with me to school and decided it was fine. I even decided that I would take no change with me to get a soda from the machine in the teachers lounge. That to is a big temptation. I realize that this is most certainly an adiction. I have never been adicted to anything like this before. I think about getting a Diet Coke all the time. Since I have been away from it for this long (3 full days) I realize that this has been so bad. I think about running to 7-11 all the time and when I get really thirsty, before, nothing tasted better than soda. Now I have to get myself used to water. Water really is the better choice. ARGH! I want a soda. Does this feeling ever go away of the wanting. I am over the headaches but the wanting is killing me! HELP! I idea's to keep the cravings away.

Cyndi,
that wanting does get easier with time... unfortantly, that's pretty much the only thing that helps, TIME. Addictions are hard, expecially ones that are legal, you can get your Diet Coke just about anywhere... I just want you to know that I'm cheering for you, caffeine is rough :)
I love your blog, and you little Emma is so cute (I've got a littler Emma, I love the name).. One thing that does help, is to give it to our loving Heavenly Father, He knows you better than anyone. Good luck, I know you can do it!!!
Hey, I'm proud of how you're resiting the temptation! I agree with Jessica that time is the biggest help...but I remember something Dr Phil said once. He said "you don't break habits, you replace one behavior with a new behavior, so try putting something in the diet coke's place. Everytime you think about a diet coke, gulp down some water, or if that gets boring, try adding those crystal light packets, they're sugar free and pretty tasty. I think in time, you're gonna replace the habit of thinking you want a diet coke, with thinking you want WATER instead or anything that's better for you than soda. But water is the best, and I know I could do alot better at drinking more water too! Good luck and I know you can do it!
Yeah Cyndi! It will get easier. You'll one day look back and think . . . "how did I ever drink that crap?" Add a little lemon to your water to be able to stomach it more. Also, find a place with crushed ice and make a little snack out of it. I eat sometimes with a spoon while watching TV - beats a bowl of ice cream anytime! Well, in some ways! Good luck.
Hi Cyndi,
I enjoy reading you blog. I too have a huge diet coke addiction for the last 4 years. And I have whined about it in many of my postings. I recently got sick and couldn’t drink if for a week. I did find that cold peppermint tea did help with my cravings but I couldn’t stick out the head aches so I’m back on. I still drink the cold peppermint tea to warn away the need for a second coke. I just throw a peppermint tea bag in a big water bottle with cold water and refill it through out the day. Good luck. If you make it maybe I’ll try again too.
I don't have any advice for kicking the cravings, except to occasionally flavor the water with something, as suggested by others. I am a heavy water drinker. We rarely have a flavored beverage. I have some close friends, a couple, who are addicted to coke and pepsi (each likes one). They recognize how bad it is (getting a pepsi at McD's with your breakfast meal, really?) but they don't care to cut it out. Good for you for cutting it out!
when i want a little treat, but not the caffeine or carbonation, I grab a lemon propel!! i love the stuff cold!! i agree, find something else still kinda healthy but taste good. crystal light works too.
Ok, I'm not addicted to caffeine but I am addicted to sugar. I find I crave it at different times during the day. I think that is just as bad if not worse than your diet coke. Anyway, I was thinking, are your trying to get away from the carbonation or the caffeine? If it is the caffeine do you think it would be ok to wean yourself by drinking caffeine- free diet coke? Isn't that kind of like nicorette gum for smokers trying to quit. If it's the carbonation and/or both then I would go with the crystal light option. I like that as a nice substitute for constant water. Good luck, pray hard, you'll feel better when you do.
Someday I might decide to give up my Diet Pepsi habit, but this post is helping me to realize it will not be anytime soon. :-)
Whenever I want a diet coke (or other soda) I grab a flavored water pack and dump it into a big glass of water. Not just any flavored water but the good stuff that has tons of added fiber and no sugar and junk. Then I am able to "trick" my body into thinking it's getting a great treat when really I'm just drinking pumped up WATER! :)
I have "quit" twice while I was pregnant and I am telling you that when I finally got to have my sweet diet coke there was nothing better, but I am proud of you and your determination. I know for me I would put some Emergen-C in my water to help get it down. Plus it gives you a boost of Vitamins at the same time. Good luck!
i wouldn't give it up. drink more. twice as much. in fact call coke and see if they have an apted up diet coke with twicw or thwice or fouwice the caffeinne. MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm ..... CAFFEINE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
or my other option would be is to go to 7-11 by an extra large double big gulp, guzzel it down rather quickly and then go swim a 500m swim in less then 10 min. you won't ever want to touch the stuff again. or for awhile at least.
