Emma's new eyes

Emma got her new glasses on March 17th. She was pretty excited about it except for one thing. This one thing plagued her endlessly. Before getting her glasses, Emma and I had talked extensively about caring for them and how great she would look and how cute they were on her and how great she was going to be able to see with them. I was really trying to pump up her ego so that she would not be nervous or think that getting glasses was something bad. As we drove up to the eye doctors office, she became more and more quiet. When she first found out she was going to get them she was bouncing off the walls and was so excited. I couldn't understand the change that had come about. I thought she would again be so excited. She truly had been talking about them for days. As we got there and got them she seemed "ok" but again not overly excited. Finally later that night as I was tucking her into bed she said she was really nervous about getting teased. NOWHERE in anything I had said did I mention that she might get teased. I didn't really think she would because there are a few kids in her class that wear them and a few kids at church and it is much more common now a days to see a kid in glasses. I thought that maybe somebody at school had already said something but she said no. I assured her that no one would say anything and that, I thought, was the end of it. The next few days she didn't go to school because of us playing hooky with Anita. Finally when Friday came along and she had to go to school she was again fearful of being teased. I was there with her and made sure no one teased her. Of course no one did! Finally later I found the reason she was so fearful. BRENT! In his kind way, he was trying o prepare her for maybe getting teased. He did not mean anything bad by preparing her for that and in fact was trying to build her up and protect her from it. Isn't it funny (in a way) that both of us were trying to protect her from something emotionally bad in our own way and in the end it was for naught! Anyway she looks very cute if I do say so myself. Her glasses are pretty cool because in different lights they look different colors. She is getting used to them pretty well and no longer is afraid of being teased. Hopefully though the doctor is right in that she will eventually grow out of her prescription and no longer need them. For now she just looks pretty cute!

Oh Emma, how adorable you look!!! I got my first pair of glasses when I was in fifth grade and I was also afraid of getting teased...but you know what? From what I recall I never was! :) I think you look positively delightful!
