his morning I was watching the Today Show and Matt Lauer was interviewing a judge from the Miss USA Pageant as well as Miss California, Carrie Prejean. Now I didn't see the pageant but the gist of the question was about California's recent battle with Prop 8 about the sactity of marraige or rather known to the world as gay marriage. (Watch it here) Miss California's answer was in agreement with church standing's. She was docked for her "political" answer because she wouldn't give an answer that supported every single one of America's beliefs. She gave an answer for what she believes in and was docked in points. On the Today Show the judge said he wanted her to give an answer that skirts around the truth and makes everyone in every group feel satisfied. Are we that big of idiots that we would have been fooled by this answer? No of course not. Every single one of us would have been able to see through her and say that she sounds like a politician and that she was skirting around the question. Instead she gave an answer that was truthful and straight from the heart. This country is full of people who have different beliefs and different oppinions and because of that we need to be very respectul of each other. Even in the church we have different political oppinions and parties. Is this wrong? OF COURSE NOT!!! Is is ok to be a democrat if you are Mormon? I may be wrong but I think that my aunt and uncle are democrats and they are wonderful people and very faithful to the LDS church. Of course it is not wrong to have a difference of opinion or different political party. OK SORRY back to the pageant. So after this girl had been blasted by this judge on the Today Show, Matt Lauer turns to her and says something like, "If you had it to do all over again and this time you had the oportunity to win, would you change your answer?" At this moment I held my breath and prayed that she stands by what she believes. She answers by saying that she would not change her answer at all. She then said, "I WILL NOT STAND IN THE MIDDLE!" Wow that hit me like a ton of bricks. In our church we all have heard the saying, fence sitting. No one wants to be a fence sitter and at that moment she said she would not be one. What a great example of a modern day Christian. I hope that we can all stand up to day and say, "I WILL NOT STAND IN THE MIDDLE."

Wow, that is awesome! What an amazing example.
When I first heard this story yesterday, I was so upset. I was angry that in a country that is founded on FREEDOM - of speech, of religion, of belief - someone could be punished for having the courage to stand up for something they believe in, even if it is not politically correct or popular. There are just not words to express how hypocritical that is.
I may just have to write this girl a letter thanking her for her courage.
I felt so bad for her while I watched this cuz I know it must have been hard to say that right to a gay mans face and how that must have thrown her for a loop in front of millions of people. But I'm sooo glad she voiced her opinion and has stayed strong with it. I feel bad that she will now be a new target for this subject and I think it is unnecessary for them to bring politics into the miss America pagent. It is awesome that she has been so strong through it all.
Great post! I agree 100%!
I love this post!!! I'm glad that someone has the courage to stand up and exercise their right for freedom of speech. I agree with the first comment soo hypocritical!
hooray for integrity!!!!
