Hi. Brent here. Time for my yearly posting. An interesting thing happened at the gym earlier this morning. I was in my usual group class, having (relative) fun while sweatin' my butt off. To me, this particular instructor has an odd taste in music. Two songs she played went way over the line as far as what I would like to hear. Some rap artists actually do have incredible talent, but many of them choose to use said talent in a manor that I don't care about one bit. One song was about where he wishes his mother to go and what to do once she gets there. He didn't try to sugar coat it, either. I'll let you use your imagination....
So here I am thinking 'This is incredible. Granted, some people have terrible parents. It truly is a sad state of affairs. However, complaining about it in a form of entertainment is just something I'm not interested in hearing. It's rude and offensive. I also don't find it entertaining to hear how one 'gansta' is accusing another 'gansta' of "frontin'".
As the class ended I though that I should tell the instructor about this, and ask her not to play this garbage again. But hey - noone else seemed to care about it. I'll just cause a dust storm with her if I say anything.
As I'm heading to the exit door of the building, I thought "no, I need to tell her - this will just keep going on if I do nothing. I'll have to stop taking the class just because I'm too chicken to say anything about it". So after a bit of hesitation, I head back to where she was, and talked to her about the situation.
Good thing I did. She explained that since her English isn't perfect (she's French), she typically doesn't listen or understand what the music is saying, but rather chooses it because of the beat of the music. She apologized profusely and promised not to play those two songs again.
No need to get all upset and cause a big scene by complaining to the manager or other silly tactics. Just a simple conversation is typically needed. Now granted, this doesn't always work, but it's the easiest and best thing to attempt first when you have a problem. Too many people are too much of a mouse to even attempt that. They just let things roll on by, and wonder why the world is crumbling around them.

You are my hero!!! I have learned so much about confronting people from your example. Only once did it not do any good. Every other time doing just what you said worked the way I wanted it to! YOU ARE MAN!!! I love you baby! Way to go!
