A bicycle built for two

If you have been following our blog for a few years you will remember pictures of Emma on a tandem attachment bike (click here for previous post) or sometimes it's called a tag a long bike that hooked to the the back of one of our bikes. Well she has grown out of that one and we sold it. Recently we bought this new full size tandem bike. Brent has wanted one for a really long time and this was a good price because it needed a little work. Luckily he knows what he's doing and has spent a few hours restoring it to good condition. I think it's just about ready to take out for a ride. Emma already loves it. It's a little different from her other one in that she "has" to peddle this time. On the other one it was made so that the tag along person could just sit and not peddle if they grew tired but this one forces her legs to move along with the peddles in the front. This bike sits the riders way closer together but I don't think Emma minds that. I wasn't sure she would be able to ride that at all but she's taller than I guessed. The seat is as far down as it can go and her legs push out as far as they can go so really she just fits it barely right now but she's a weed and grows faster than I like! I know this other pictures really is all that flattering but the first one was blurry and I think this is actually pretty cute of the two of them riding in tandem. Brent told me that when they were going up a hill he really had to push it. He said he didn't think Emma was really doing any of the work. BIG SURPRISE THERE! I'm a little concerned with how this fits on the bike rack but we'll figure it out. One last thing about this that makes me laugh that you kind of see in the very beginning of the video is that you can't see Emma at all if you are looking straight on. Really you don't even realize that it's a tandem until they get closer. Brent's a big guy and all but I think it's pretty funny that he hides her so well.
