The other day as I drove down the road I got this whiff of
something fabulous. Then as I was sitting comfortably in my home, again, I got the same whiff of that fabulous smell as it came wavering through the window. It's one of my favorite smells. It's one of those smells that you only get once a year. It's the smell of roasting pumpkin. It's the smell of Fall! You know I got lucky once more when Brent roasted a pumpkin over the weekend! I've been thinking a lot about Fall and how wonderful it is. You pull out your favorite jeans and sweaters. You slowly (very slowly in San Diego) put away your sandals and don your thick socks and sturdier shoes. The sun sets sooner and you get these amazing sunsets and moons. This picture of the moon is not one I took but as I came home from Choir the other night the moon was about the smallest sliver I've ever seen. It was so beautiful. I made Brent and Emma go searching for it with the camera but the more we searched the more it hid behind the clouds. This year I missed that great Harvest Moon. Usually in October I search the calendar, looking for the night of the full moon because it never disappoints. I was so happy to see this sliver of a moon though; it seemed like it made up for the Harvest Moon I missed. Here in SD, Fall seems to last throughout December and typically we have a wonderful Christmas of 75 degrees! I guess the point that I'm coming to is just simply that I love fall. It's not yet drab like Winter (at least Winter in SD is drab) and it's not refreshing like Spring. It's not full of excitement the way Summer seems to be. Fall is more like that feeling you get when you've been away from your Mom's house for a long time and you come home and are welcomed in with open arms into a loving embrace. That's Fall! Warm, cozy, and comforting!
