Awhile ago I saw on my friends blog, how she made a car
caddy. It looked so cute and relatively easy, making me believe that it would be a fun project. My problem was however, I don't have any boys to make one for so I decided that my two nephew's that I would be seeing at Thanksgiving needed one each for Christmas. Plus I had almost all the materials needed. The only thing I was unsure about was the freezer paper part. I had never used freezer paper as a stencil so I got on youtube.com and found
this video on how to do it.(She's a little corn dog if you ask me but at least she covers everything) I figured out however that I could cut a piece of freezer paper the same size as printer paper and print right on the freezer paper with my inkjet printer. This also could be done with a Cricut if you have one. It was WAY EASIER than trying to trace. I realize now that my numbers were a little off but it's all good. Two things about this that's different than the car caddy tutorial is that I chose to paint my road on black denim that I had laying around instead of using felt and sewing it. I did have to sew the sides of the denim under as not to fray the edges but with black thread you can hardly tell. The second is that I found a cute stencil and painted their names on the front. the insides of the caddies are exactly the same so having their names on the front will help. I thought they turned out really really cute.
After I finished with this project I got thinking to myself about what else I could do with Freezer Paper because I wasn't done with my crafty urges!!!! For Halloween I bought Emma a plain black shirt to go with her costume. I thought it would be fun to add some cute design to it. Ya not
such a great idea because I spent WAY to many hours working on this silly project. It turned out cute but still! Ok, so I figured out by surfing the web that on Wikipedia you can type in a name in the search box and then when the name comes up you click on what language you want to use. The different languages are on the left panel part of the way down. After you do it a couple of times you get the hang of looking in the right place for the how the name is written. If you highlight the name, right click, click on copy, then you can paste it into your word program and it will paste in the same language as how you copied it. Then you can use whatever font size you want and print a stencil with Freezer paper from your printer. This was a fun project for Emma and I to work on together. She did the painting and I cut and ironed on everything. She wore this shirt to school the other day and she said she had three kids come up to her to tell her they could read some of the languages. If I was going to do this project again I do have some advice...use brand new fabric paint and make sure your glue for the glitter is washable!!! After I washed this the glitter came all off because I didn't make sure I used my washable glue and some of the paint chipped because it was old. I have redone some of this shirt and that's why it became a headache. Other than that it turned out pretty darn cute and Emma loves it!
