Kindergarten Tales

So I have been thinking about something that I could continually post about. I want to have something like an ongoing story or event. I have to admit that I sort of stole this idea from a teachers aide but I don't think she will mind so much.

Every Friday I have the pleasure of volunteering in Emma's class. Sometimes I am there from 7-2 and sometimes my day starts at about 9:30-2 but however long I am there I always find funny things that are either said or done by the kids or the teacher or even sometimes I will be honest by me. I hope that you will appreciate the humor from a kindergarten class.
Every Friday until we are finished learning the alphabet we have a letter celebration. Ms. Bils (Emma's teacher) writes the days events on the board and the kids have to find all the letters that they are celebrating in the words that are written. This morning as she begins writing on the board (the kids are busy doing something else and she and I are visiting a little) she starts by writing, "Today we will look for the letter Ee". Well instead of writing the word "look" she writes "loof". So it reads, "Today we will loof for the letter Ee." Well sure enough don't you know, a kid in the class says before either of us notices, "Ms. Bils what's a loof." That started the theme for the rest of the day. We laughed all day and every time we headed out to go do something she or I would turn and say to one another, "Shall we loof?!" Needless to say she and I have become quite the friends and she is so easy going.

Well the next part of the day that was pretty cute actually started on Wednesday when a boy in Emma's class came up to me after school and said, "I gave Emma my phone number and she can call me (waves his hand while saying this) ANYTIME! I kinda chuckle and then we went on our way. Later on that day I looked at the phone number and it was four little digits. How cute! So then this morning this same little boy came up to me and said, "Mrs. Heddens (that's what they all call me. I have no idea why they have made it Heddens and not just Hedden) Emma hasn't called me. I don't know why she hasn't called me but I want her to call me. She needs to call me." I could hardly contain myself. I told him that he must have given Emma the wrong number. He quickly smiled and said, "Oh that's no problem, I can fix that right now." He took off and sat down. Then we went on with something else and I guess he forgot about it because it was never brought up again. He talks to Emma all the time and he talks about Emma all the time. It makes me laugh because I asked her is he was her friend and she said who are you talking about. She doesn't even know he exists! Obviously she knows him but he is not important enough to care about.

There is another little budding romance in the class but again it is one of the boys that is in love with a girl and she could care less about him. Ms. Bils says she has never seen in all her 26 years teaching little boys in kindergarten following around little girls to give them dandilions and weeds they think are flowers. If one of the girls is towards the back of the line when we are walking to the library or one of the various places we go around the school the boy will get out of line and purposely be in the back of the line just to be close to the girl. I am not kidding. I watched it happen three times today! Little budding romances in Kindergarten! What comes next? I am a little afraid to find out.

How fun is that? I can't wait to be apart of Nicci's class. When i was in kindergarden i had a romance that lasted till 6 grade with the same adorable jewish boy. Then i got a "U" (for unsatisfactory) in 2 classes and he told me i 'wasn't the kind of girl he wanted to date'...hahaha!! it was hilarious! He was a straight arrow, and i was definitely a bent one. lol. We are STILL friends and love to laugh about our "kindergarden romance".
