A few months back around Thanksgiving time my sewing machine turned
traitor. We tried in vain to get parts but it was all for naught. Parts were not what they were advertised to be and didn't function the way they said they would. Time for a new a new machine. WELL not really. We tried JB weld, super glue, and good ole jery riggin it to get this darn thing to work but alas we had to finally give up. Now the biggest frustration of this whole story is that it died just as I was getting started on SEVERAL projects. For months and months those projects got put on hold. I was able to go to a friends house and use her machine for the most prominent problems but the rest wasn't dire. Then we finally found one that met my needs for a reasonable price and broke down and bought it. Now its April and I am finally able to pull these projects back out and work on them. This is one of them. Emma! No I'm not sending her through the machine but teaching her the basics of how to do it. She has these pillows that she's earned as rewards and for whatever reason the felt just won't stay glued on so we decided to sew them in place. This was her practice piece. I love her determined face. It was great working next to her and "sewing" her the ropes. I drew a few lines on the material and told her it was just like driving a car! She did great! This other picture is of our sweet little buddy.
His bed was disgusting and I couldn't stand the sight of it. I was able to get a huge chunk of foam from a friend and so I cut him a bed out of the foam and then covered it with batting and fleece. Braxton LOVES his bed. I didn't even have to put any cat nip in it to persuade him to lay in it. Whenever he can't be on the recliner he is in his bed! That was a fun project and I'm totally proud of the way it turned out. That's me, the uh unconventional, non trained, beginner seamstress. I don't really know how to read a pattern or know much about this whole process but I know how to use my machine to get what I want and I pick up stuff along the way! I'm so thankful to have a sewing machine back in our home. I never realized just how much I pull it out for little things all the time. Back when we got our first one we had to decide between getting a sewing machine and a gas grill. I wanted that gas grill so bad but Brent persisted and we got the sewing machine. I've been grateful ever since!

Spencer wanted the sewing machine before the grill, too. I never woulda guessed! I still have to learn how to use mine . . . : )
