Happy Father's Day, Dick!

This is Brent's dad, Richard (Dick). (Written by Brent)

(The human, NOT the bird)

Some of the best memories I have of my dad –

He used to eat peanut M&Ms like no one’s business. He would buy a three pound bag (the biggest bags they ever made!), and have it gone before the day was done. Funny, because he never gained any weight from this. He would usually keep them in a bowl next to his chair while he watched a movie. My brother and I were always scheming on how to swipe some without him noticing. Sometimes we could sneak up behind the chair and successfully steal some without him noticing (as far as we knew). Other times he would catch us, and start throwing M&Ms at us. Either way we won, I suppose. The three second rule doesn’t apply to kids and free M&Ms.

Another was his fancy towards Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk. Yea, that
really thick, super sweet “milk”. No, not to use in some fancy desert recipe. He would take a spoon and eat it straight out of the can. A week didn’t do by without him eating at least one can. We brothers would think it really cool to get a spoon or two of this stuff. Instead of sneaking around to get our sugar high (like we did with the M&Ms), we just simply asked him. Sometimes we would get some, sometimes not. Mainly depended on the mood he was in.

When I was in middle school, he ran a little league tackle football, for kids age 8-10 (if I remember correctly). Something like this was never done before in our town. It was a LOT of work, and it really paid off well in boosting the kid’s moral. I wasn’t a participant, but I did help out a lot. He was always involved one way or another in kid’s sports.

I’ll be honest and up front. I haven’t seen my dad in person for about 8 years. He hasn’t ever seen Cyndi or Emma in person. Being several states apart makes it difficult that way. I don't even have any recent pictures of him. The two pics above are at least 25 years old. Of course, I still talk to him on the phone every now and then. There are some things that he’s done that I’m not particularly proud of, but now it’s all water on a duck’s back. Considering his past, he is doing very well now medically and spiritually. I have noticed a change with him over the past two years. Things are looking up. (Note from Cyndi-Isn't Brent the best guy? I laughed, I cried! I love you sweetheart.)
