While I was perusing Facebook this morning (instead of making my bed and cleaning)
I came across this picture of my parents, my cousin Becca and her new hubby Chris. They were married last week and then had a reception in Orem this past Saturday. All the sudden I realized that it's been 11 years since Brent and I met each other for the first time in SLC. Becca was living in Ogden (I think) and Brent was living in West Valley City. My 6'2" little brother Trevor drove with me to Becca's for the weekend all just to meet Brent for the first time in person. Becca and I had been emailing back and forth a lot during this time and she was always encouraging me to keep this relationship going. (If you didn't know we met on ldsso.com and had talked a lot but never met in person) It was a crazy insane weekend but I fell in love. 3 weeks later Brent drove to Las Vegas, met my family and proposed! 3.5 months later we were married! It's a fun little reminder of the past. It's coincidental that Becca had her reception the same weekend that Brent and I saw each other for the first time. It's also a little coincidental that Brent and I moved to San Diego four years ago this past weekend. I should be able to remember this date because it's also Pioneer day weekend. This year it just sorta slipped past me. I was reading with Emma in her Friend magazine about pioneers the other day. It said that a pioneer is someone who goes somewhere or does something first and shows others the way to follow. It doesn't really make me feel like a pioneer to have met and married someone over the internet or to have moved away from family and friends to a strange new place but I did have the thought that both of those things happened on this pioneer day weekend and for me both of those things were out of my comfort zones and I'm sure that crossing the plains and mountain ranges all those years ago were certainly out of my ancestors comfort zones but they were following the Lord's council. Both Brent and I feel that these two choices were certainly because we followed the Lord as well. Isn't it funny what parallels you can draw?
