Yesterday morning, Friday Flag was quite entertaining. Three
separate times different flocks of birds, in the quintessential V formation, flew high in the air over 750 students while poor fifth graders trying in earnest to make their announcements and keep the students attention, lost their battle. It was like dominoes, one student bored or otherwise distracted spotted the birds then another and another until the excitement spread throughout the playground and everyone was turned to see the natural phenomenon of nature. We watched as the birds flew so majestically through the air holding to their tight formation each time until they flew far enough away to be seen. One thing still baffles me however. The adage goes that birds fly south for the winter. These birds, all three flocks, were headed in an eastern direction. Does the adage not fit? The reason this made it to the blog is one to tell of the kids excitement and two because it is still so cool to me to see something like this so named "flying V"! One last thought, I'm not so sure that if I had been at a school with older children if the same thing happened that the same reaction would have occurred. It always amazes me at how innocent children are and how the world is still full of amazing things that are cool and exciting to them. I think this is just one part of what the Lord meant when he said to become as little children.
