Phantom of the Opera
For
my Birthday my sweet husband and my sweet sister took me and Angie for our birthday's to see The Phantom of the Opera. As I had said in earlier posts, I did not bring Breaking Dawn with me to this. It was a tough decision but in the end I was glad. I had never been to see this particular play before and I didn't want to be preoccupied with something else. I wanted to sit and feel the emotions running through the theater. I wanted to see exactly when the lights went down and to be able to watch the orchestra start up. I loved hearing the trumpets run through their scales to warm up and watch as people found their seats. This is all something I would have missed if I had been reading. I am not saying that this is bad for anyone else but for me I wanted to be able to experience everything. My oldest brother Karl brought home the music when I was around 12 years old and I have been listening to it since. Anita went with friends the summer after her graduation I think and I was jealous then. She came home and told me all about it and ever since then I have wanted to go. When I saw that it was here in town I decided that seeing it was the only thing I wanted for my birthday. I gotta say that I have loved the music almost all of my life but oh my, I absolutely love it more now. I thought that I would sing along because I know most of the words but no. I was so entranced with the whole production that I just sat and stared. Of course the music doesn't tell the whole story and it follows it pretty well on cd but you don't really get the feelings and emotions from the Phantom that you do when watching it. I always kinda thought that Raoul was a nice guy but that he didn't understand Christine. I never really understood their love and relationship. I always wondered what the deal with the Phantom really was and I never did und
erstand the whole part with the third woman who I now know is the choreographer and dance instructor for the opera and who is Megan's mother which now makes tons of sense(not necessarily for the person reading this blog but of course for me). I have now slowed down on listening to the music but at first I couldn't get enough of it. I even borrowed the recent movie from my friend Jennie. The movie adds just a little to the play but considering that Andrew Lloyd Weber assisted in making the movie, it is pretty much the same. I have to shout out a big huge thank you to my husband. This sort of thing is really not his favorite but he went with me anyway and he said he enjoyed himself. I loved sharing this with him. It's not often that we make such sacrifices in our marriage. He and I are a lot a like I think and we do so much of the same stuff. We are together most always and except for Enrichment activities I can't think of anything lately that I have planned that he has said he would rather not do. Well anyway I owe a big huge thank you to my sister too. You both are so great. O
k one more big shout out of thanks goes to Jennie Williams. She watched Emma in the middle of a Saturday afternoon so that we could go. You are the best girl! Just as an after thought to all of this Phantom stuff, I would totally see it again. I have now seen only a few actual Broadway shows. I have seen plenty of plays that may have once been on Broadway but only a few actual Broadway shows. I want to say that Phantom has been my favorite but honestly I think that I have said that after every single one. Beauty and the Beast was my first, Les Miserables was my second and now Phantom of the Opera. There are plenty others that I would love seeing. I could become a Broadway junkie if Brent would let me spend countless dollars on tickets!

Isn't it so amazing?? I love Phantom of the Opera...and I'm so glad you took it all in and had a wonderful time. Someday we should take Geoff and Emma to see The Lion King.
Oh, I love, love, love Phantom of the Opera!! I saw it on Broadway in NYC the summer after my first year of college and, like you said, was utterly entranced by the entire production!! You and Brent look sooooooooooooo cute!! What a fabulous couple you two make!!!
Phantom of the Opera is probably my favorite!!! I saw it on the 8th grade DC trip years ago in New York on Broadway, again while I was in high school, and just recently with my dad and grandma (I lucked out because my mom was in Orlando for work!). I'm so glad you liked it so much!
