Sew? I can sew!

The other day as I sat learning my new crafty orange hat thingy, I told a few of the ladies there that I don't really know how to sew. Okay let me explain because I know you are looking at a picture of me in front of homemade curtains. I do know how to use my sewing machine. I don't know how to read a pattern. I can think things up in my head and sew them or I can look at something and copy it sort of. I have had a lot of practice sewing straight lines! So when my friend Jen said that she wanted Transformer curtains for her sons room but couldn't find any, I said I would make her some. She paid for the material and I did the rest. These are actually some of the best things I have ever done before as far as pulling an idea out of my head. I was pleased with the way they turned out and so was Jen. Nicolas seemed as excited as you could expect from a six old! Something that I am learning that I haven't really thought mattered all that much before was to iron. It's so much easier working with nicely pressed material! (Thanks Mary) The other thing I learned especially with this project was not to be in a hurry. Thank goodness the Olympics were on when I was doing this at 11 at night because I wouldn't have had the patients other wise!

I am so super impressed! I was laughing when you said that you didn't know how to sew, because I remember all the material you had in your old house, and your sewing room (sigh I am still jealous of that). As for me I STILL have not finished Kerry's quilt from 2 years ago.

Those are soooo cute! It's so cool that you made that up! I can read patterns OK, but I'm still a little, OK a lot, scared of my sewing machine! lol, I guess it just takes time!
