ter watching Arthur one day on PBS Emma said to me that she wanted a pen pal. I told her that her cousin Maddie would make a great pen pal and to write and asked if she wanted to do that. So I helped her write a letter and send it off. Well for Emma the wait was long. Finally the day came and she got a le
tter back! Maddie was of course wanting to be pen pals. Today I suggested that maybe she should send another letter. She sat down at the table and started in on writing a letter. She asked for help a few times while I was working on dinner so I wasn't paying too much attention. She sounded out words and wrote it all herself. There is even a joke in there. I think this was a great idea for her and for Maddie. They are both only children and getting a little something in the mail that is special for just you is such a treat! I know as a kid I always thought that Mom and Dad got so much mail and that I never got any. Now as an adult I realize that it was mostly bills! I hope that Maddie and Emma will both want to continue this for a long time. They live so far from each other and hardly get time together so it would be great for them to build a bond like this. I'm sure eventually it will turn to email but for now and for my six year old, snail mail is terrific!

such a great idea! i hope when craig gets older, he would want to write to maybe cote or faith. who knows though. he might not be patient enough to sit and write!! i love emma!
