HAH!!!!! I KNEW IT!

That lady at the zoo was talking out her you know what. I just got an email back from the zoo. Here it is.

This is an answer to your inquiry regarding the white flower on zoo grounds. The picture you sent is a Hedychium coronarium, or common name of butterfly lily or white ginger, and is in the ginger family. They all have a very strong fragrance and they are NOT poisonous. The plants get up to 3 to 7 ft tall and don't bloom until they are around 2 years old. They are used in Leis in Hawaii.
