The Century is a 100 mile bike ride. I don't know if it is only supposed to be ridden in one day or if the rider can

span it over a more lengthy time. This century during the Tour de Cure was ridden in about 7 hours in one day by my sweetheart. The Tour took place April 18, 2009. Brent left for his ride at 6:00 in the morning. Emma and I sat around watching movies and reading, playing games and sleeping while Brent rode. Emma and I signed up to ride the 10 mile family ride but that was scheduled for much later. Finally the time came and we left on our ride that was poorly marked and we got lost and left behind. Finally one of the motorcycles who were supposed to follow the last rider came up to us and told us we were going the wrong way however I knew we were going the right way and so I ignored him because Brent and I had gone over the trail at 5:00 in the morning and I really felt like I knew where I was going. Finally we found w

hat way we were supposed to be going. So anyway I was royally peeved by the time I got back and just wanted to be done with the whole thing but Brent wasn't back yet and I knew he would be a bit longer. The nice thing was though that the organizers of the tour had planned on everyone who rode got fed afterward. Emma and I took off and had a bite to eat and I really thought Brent would be back by that time. No he still wasn't. I looked down and was getting a bit worried because a lot of other century riders

had come through and still no sign of the hubby. I asked the overseerer of the event if she knew if all the riders had come back in and she said there were about 20 more riders out in the field. She asked me if I knew Brent's bib number and I thought to myself, "Oh that would have been a good thing to have known before the ride!" I told her no and she said that if he didn't come in in the next hour to let her know. I don't know what she was planning on doing if he didn't come in but I decided not to jump to conclusions that my husband was stuck on the side of the road somewhere stuck and sit down and wait a little more patiently for him to come back. I called my mom. Calling my mom always helps take my mind off the matter at hand and then in no time at all here came my champion! After Brent gets finished with a long ride he has this look on his face. It's sort of a culmination of leave me the heck alone and get the frick out of my way and if you touch me I'll wack you and I'm about to collapse. He had that look on his face but about ten times to the extreme. Sure enough he was starving and so we went to get him some food and don't ya know they were packing it up. Ok this is a big huge beef I have. Hey lets provide food but not

provide enough of the good stuff and pack up before the last of the riders come in. Oh ya and lets have our sponsors provide drinks that tastes like they've been run through my husbands sweaty bicycle shoes. Needless to say I'm more than just a little irritated by the whole event. The upside to all of this was that they did provide pictures online of Brent so that we could get pictures of him on his bike since we didn't chase him this year. These are pretty great shots for a still camera on the side of the road.

The others are of our bibs and Brent's bike odometer. The one is the miles, 105 something and the other is the time. After discussing this for awhile we decided that we would not be participating in the event next year. We would however like to thank any and all of those who helped us get there. You guys rock! With your help "they" are one step closer to beating diabetes.
