Christmas Eve 2009

When we first moved to San Diego we decided that we needed to stay home for Christmas. We had just been to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving and that was great but Brent and I felt that Christmas was just for our immediate family. During the last four Christmas' different family has been able to come and that is always wonderful but it has turned out to be really nice to just be the three of us. Each Christmas Eve has been just a bit different. Last year we did a big meal and that was great but this year I just wasn't up for it. I wanted a new tradition for Christmas Eve dinner and this year it didn't go off the way I hoped but the way it did turn out was really good. I wanted to spend sundown at the beach and then come home and have an easy dinner but we didn't make it to the beach. That was ok though because the evening together made up for the loss of being at the beach. It was really really good. Kind of at the last minute we noticed we had eaten all the cookies and had none to leave out for Santa so we made a brand new recipe... Chocolate Macaroons. I promise to make them again and throw the recipe up on the food blog one of these days. Emma got a kick out of pipping the batter out on the the pan and I couldn't believe how good she was doing for her first time at it. They turned out sooooo good. I thought it might be fun to put little bits of peppermint into them. We'll see! The other part of our Christmas Eve tradition is to read out of the bible and talk about the sweet story of Baby Jesus and then Emma gets a gift from Mom and Dad which is always new jammies! She knows every time they are coming and can't wait to rip open the present. She loved them. How much? You'll have to wait until the next post!
