I am part of a great family. I hate thinking that my family is or was better than anyone else. The Bunker side came along the plains just as many other families did and really there is nothing to brag about when saying I have a long history of great pioneers because it doesn't make my family any better than anyone else. The truth of the matter is that as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we can all be proud of our LDS history because we have all be grafted into that great tree! I am however proud to be a Bunker. My grandmother Wanda Bunker Abbott is a daughter to Hector Bunker who is a son to Edward Bunker and Mary McQuarrie his third wife. Every couple of years we get together as family either in Bunkerville or in Las Vegas and celebrate our family. It has been tradition since I was a little girl. We would have foot races and games. We would see cousins that hadn't been seen for two whole years. When I was a little girl it would always be in Bunkerville and you would know you had reached Bunkerville when you could smell the cows. At first it would be an overwhelming smell but after you had been there for an hour or two it was like old home week! It's always fun to go and this year was no different. There has been a bit of a difference for me though, this year espcially things have changed. I guess it is just because I am older but it didn't seem there was as much competition this year. Not competition between families or anything like that but when I was younger I always felt like I had to prove myself. I think this comes from being in a terrific family who has set high standards. I realized this time around that those high standards are not required but suggested. I realized that if I don't meet those standards I am not going to be kicked out of the family. I still will be loved and cherished as always. I think this year was probabaly one of the best because I came to that understanding. Family should not be a word that means terms and conditions but instead it should mean love and cherish and this past November I felt that from being with all the Bunkers. On a side note story....sometimes the family meeting gets a little long for the kids (and sometimes for the adults) but Craig was getting a little restless so I let him take pictures with my camera. See if you can spot which ones he took. By the way Craig is the little cute one in the red shirt!
