My 2 Hours of Sisterhood

Today was like any other. It started out with nothing overly special or out of the ordinary. It was just another day. I did laundry and worked around the house. I cleaned up here and there and then went out to find some materials for Emma's science project before I had to pick her up from school. It was then however that my day started to change. At Target I ran into a sister from our ward. She stopped me and asked how I was. It was obvious that she was in a bit of a hurry but I was touched that she stopped to at least acknowledge me when we barely know one another. As I was on my way out to my car, our just released Relief Society President passed me in her car. She waved and smiled and I waved and smiled back. Funny I thought that I would run into two random people from church out and about in the community. The thought came again..."touched" to be recognized and greeted. I drove to school where I had a bit of work to do before the bell rang but found myself without work and not wanting to bother Emma's class while they were taking a test, I sat myself down in the library to play Emma's DS until the bell rang. Soon after starting my game another funny thing happened. Another sister from our ward came into the library. We chatted for a moment and then she went in to the work room to sharpen pencils. I went back to playing my game when a moment or two later sure enough another sister came into the library. She was helping a volunteer move boxes and while she was walking we exchanged a few pleasantries and then she left. A moment later she came back through with an empty cart and the same volunteer was with her and on their way back to the other side of the building and so once more we chatted about nothing imparticular and said our goodbyes. Again I turned back to playing Soduku when the sister who was sharpening pencils came back into the library. She and I started to visit and continued right up until the bell rang. I had the best conversation with her about organizing a progressive fellowship dinner for an activity for the ward (my new calling). I was kind of chuckling to myself about all the sisters I had seen today as I walked out to meet Emma. As we got out to the front of the school I saw one more sister from the ward. I see her almost everyday as we pick up our kids and she is always so friendly and nice. I look so forward to the brief moment of sisterhood that I get to share with her as we wait. Last but not least as we were walking to the car I saw one last sister from the ward in the pick up area waiting for her son and daughter to come out. She was lost in her own thoughts and didn't catch my eye. That's ok though. As we got into the car the thought came back to me again..."touched". We have lived in this ward almost 8 months. At first it was hard to be once again in a new ward but as time has gone by we have made friends. Today I saw how many! I feel so blessed to have been "shown" this. There were times in the beginning when I felt so alone but I saw today that all I have to do is look. One last thought. Today I got an email from an old friend talking about how Heavenly Father will open doors that no man can close. I think the Lord certainly opened a door for us into the Del Norte Ward. Thank you Del Norte Ward for bringing us through that door with open arms.
