DAM! (hehe Hover that is!)

November 25. 2010
I know I know, corny as corny can be! Enough of the dam jokes! Nope sorry there's going to be more. Can't help it! Recently the new highway into Arizona from Nevada was completed thus bypassing the Hoover Dam and creating a new and more efficient way to cross the border and the river. The Hoover Dam has always always been a special place for me. Right after we moved from Reno to Las Vegas my parents took us to see the dam. It was an awe inspiring trip for me, looking down into the spillways and all the way down the huge face of the dam. My dad is one of those guys who just seems to know an incredible amount of useless knowledge and so he versed us in "dam" history. Then for the next several years I was to go back and visit the dam on different occasions during my youth and into my pre marriage/college/shortly after married years. One night while sitting with my then boyfriend on the Arizona side and looking at the dam lights, I received the conformation I was looking for and thought that Brent MIGHT ask me to marry him while we sat in the quiet romance, but he had forgotten the ring!!! Another time I "acted" as a chaperon to a couple hundred teenagers while we went on the dam tour and on the dam elevators and saw the dam water filters and the dam parking structure and the dam tour guides and the dam this and the dam that! I've never heard so many good Mormon kids using the word DAM correctly but completely inappropriately! What a great day that was!

ANYWAY...my mom had that greatest idea to go see the new bridge on Thursday since we'd already done the turkey and all. It was so fun. Kind of a hike to get to the top of the bridge BUT so worth it. Whoever designed the bridge was a genius I'm sure but the fact that they added a walkway on the "dam" side of it was brilliant! You can walk from the Nevada side to the Arizona side and back and see the dam the whole way. It's an absolutely dam amazing view and a dam opportunity of a life time! It was so dam cold (opps that one doesn't fit) but I thought we had a great time and got some great shots. Anyway if you ever get the chance...GO! It is amazing. It's totally worth the little hike and the wind once you get up there. I loved sharing this with Emma and seeing her amazement at all of it. By the way if you do get time,
take the DAM tour!

I have heard the bridge is really cool. We haven't been to that dam place in several years, but it looks like fun! I loved seeing your pictures.

So on average, how cold do dams have to get to be dam cold?
